Reed Online
How do you improve your digital products and your design team, when the business is undergoing huge team restructuring?
Challenge
Reed Online provide web and app services for both jobseekers and recruiters. Over the course of a 10-month engagement, I was based full time on the client location, to support the design team during a product overhaul and business restructuring.
Approach
At a critical crossroads for the future, I was part of the team drafted in to conduct a 6-week discovery period of intensive research and interviews across the business to identify issues and ways of working for digital transformation. This resulted in a full company team restructuring.
Following this, I led collaboration with the design, development and product teams to coordinate design assets, tooling and processes. A design system was setup, the design tool stack was reconsidered and design sprinting was introduced.
I worked closely with the design team to develop their in-house capabilities and build cross-team relations. This including hands-on training on design sprint methods, ideation, user testing and design system management.
Team siloes was a key issue, so I instilled numerous methods to boost communications, such as sharing sessions (eg. Show & tell, lessons learnt), as well as preparing and hosting numerous workshops and hackathons.
Throughout the engagement, I also worked on and led numerous design projects to continuously deliver improvements to the company’s digital products, while embedding new ways of working.
